Las Brasas: Houston's First Charcoal Chicken Joint

Updated: Jun 20, 2019

Not too long ago, Las Brasas Charcoal Chicken opened up just outside the Energy Corridor, becoming the first place in Houston you'll find authentic Peruvian charcoal chicken. In fact, they've imported a hand built, charcoal fired oven straight from Lima, Peru to make their delicious chicken.

All their chicken marinates in a 14 spice recipe for over 24 hours before it's cooked to perfection. I know what you're thinking... 14 spices?! Is that necessary? YES, IT IS! Every spice combines to make this epic flavor that will make you want to devour the entire chicken. Oh and what makes it even better are their two sauces. The green is a milder in flavor and spice level, while the red adds extra flavor and extra spicy! I personally liked the red sauce more, but both are good depending on the flavor profile you're looking for.

You can order a quarter of a pound or half a pound of chicken, and it comes with 2 regular-sized sides of your choice. You also have family meal options where you can get one or two whole chickens, that of course also comes with sides and soda!

Be sure to try Inca Kola! It originates from Peru dating back to 1935 and is now an extremely popular beverage in the country. It's described as sweet and fruity, but to me, it tastes like bubble gum. Inca Kola is a must when eating Peruvian food.

And if you're not feeling chicken, try the Lomo Saltado. Lomo saltado is a popular traditional Peruvian dish typically made of beef, onions, and tomatoes, served with a side of rice and french fries. A few years ago, I visited Peru for the first time and found this dish to be my go-to.

Last, but certainly not least, the Alfajor, a caramel sandwich cookie. Think dulce de leche in cookie form. Bet you won't be able to have just one.
